James
Chapter 1
1:1James [a] servant of Theos, and of the Kyrios Jesus Christos, to the twelve Tribes, which are scattered abroad, salutation.
1:2My brethren, count it exceeding joy, when you fall into diverse tentations,
1:3Knowing that you trying of your faith brings forth patience,
1:4And let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entier, lacking nothing.
1:5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of Theos, which gives to all men liberally, and reproaches no man,and it shall be given him.
1:6But let him ask in faith, and waver not:for he that wavers, is like [a] wave of the sea, tost of the wind, and carried away.
1:7Neither let that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Kyrios.
1:8[A] double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
1:9Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
1:10Again he that is rich, in that he is made low:for as the flower of the grass, shall he vanish away.
1:11For as when the sun rises with heat, then the grass withers, and his flower falls away, and the goodly shape of it perishes:even so shall the rich man wither away in all his ways.
1:12Blessed is the man, that endures tentation:for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Kyrios has promised to them that love him.
1:13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of Theos:for Theos can not be tempted with evil, neither tempts he any man.
1:14But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own concupiscence, and is enticed.
1:15Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin,and sin when it is finished, brings forth death.
1:16Err not, my dear brethren.
1:17Every good giving, and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
1:18Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be as the first fruits of his creatures.
1:19Wherefore my dear brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath.
1:20For the wrath of man does not accomplish the righteousness of Theos.
1:21Wherefore lay apart all filthiness, and superfluity of maliciousness, and receive with meekness the word that is graffed in you, which is able to save your souls.
1:22And be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
1:23For if any hear the word, and do it not, he is like to a man, that beholds his natural face in a glass.
1:24For when he has considered himself, he goes his way,and forgets immediately what manner of one he was.
1:25But who so looks in the perfect Law of liberty, and continues therein, he not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, shall be blessed in his deed.
1:26If any man among you seem religious, and refrains not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
1:27Pure religion and undefiled before Theos, even the Father, is this, to visit the fatherless, and widows in their adversity, and to keep himself unspotted of the world.
Chapter 2
2:1My brethren, have not the faith of our glorious Kyrios Jesus Christos in respect of persons.
2:2For if there come into your company [a] man with [a] gold ring, and in goodly apparel, and there come in also [a] poor man in vile clothing,
2:3And you have [a] respect to him that wears the fine clothing;and say to him, Sit you here in [a] goodly place, and say to the poor, Stand you there, or sit here under my footstool,
2:4Are you not partial in yourselves, and are become Judges of evil thoughts?
2:5Hearken my beloved brethren, has not Theos chosen the poor of this world, that they should be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?
2:6But you have despised the poor. Do not the rich oppress you by tyranny, and do not they draw you before the judgment seats?
2:7Do nor they blaspheme the worthy Name after which you be named?
2:8But if you fulfill the royal Law according to the Scripture, which says, You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you do well.
2:9But if you regard the persons, you commit sin,and are rebuked of the Law, as transgressors.
2:10For whoever shall keep the whole Law,and yet fails in one point, he is guilty of all.
2:11For he that said, You shall not commit adultery, said also, You shall not kill. Now though you do none adultery, yet if you kill, you are a transgressor of the Law.
2:12So speak you,and so do, as they that shall be judged by the Law of liberty.
2:13For there shall be condemnation mercy to him that shows not mercy, and mercy rejoices against condemnation.
2:14What avails it, my brethren, though [a] man says he has faith, when he has no works? Can that faith save him?
2:15For if a brother or a sister be naked and destitute of daily food,
2:16And one of you say to them, Depart in peace:warm yourselves, and filled your bellies, things you give them not those things which are needful to the body, what helps it?
2:17Even so the faith, if it have no works, is dead in itself.
2:18But some man might say, You have the faith, and [I] have works:show me your faith out of your works, and [I] will show you my faith by my works.
2:19You believe that there is one Theos:you do well:the devils also believe it,and tremble.
2:20But will you understand, O you vain man, that the faith which is without works, is dead?
2:21Was not Abraham our father justified through works, when he offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
2:22See you not that the faith wrought with his works? And through the works was the faith made perfect.
2:23And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed Theos, and it was imputed to him for righteousness:and he was called the friend of Theos.
2:24You see then how that of works [a] man is justified, and not of faith only.
2:25Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified through works, when she had received you messengers, and sent them out another way?
2:26For as the body without the spirit is dead, even so the faith without works is dead.
Chapter 3
3:1My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
3:2For in many things we sin all. If any man sin not in word, he is [a] perfect man,and able to bridle all the body.
3:3Behold, we put bits into the horses mouths, that they should obey us,and we turn about all their body.
3:4Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small rudder, where soever the governor lists.
3:5Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts of great things:behold, how great a thing a little fire kindles.
3:6And the tongue is fire, yes, [a] world of wickedness:so is the tongue set among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell.
3:7For the whole nature of beasts, and of birds, and of creeping things, and things of the sea is tamed, and has been tamed of the nature of man.
3:8But the tongue can no man tame. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
3:9Therewith bless we Theos even the Father, and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of Theos.
3:10Out of one mouth proceeds blessing and cursing:my brethren, these things ought not so to be.
3:11Does [a] fountain send forth at one place sweet water and bitter?
3:12Can you fig tree, my brethren, bring forth olives, either [a] vine figs? So can no fountain make both salt water and sweet.
3:13Who is [a] wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him show by good conversation his works in meekness of wisdom.
3:14But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, rejoice not, neither be liars against the truth.
3:15This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, and does.
3:16For where envying and strife is, there is sedition, and all manner of evil works.
3:17But the wisdom that is from above, is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without judging, and without hypocrisy.
3:18And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace, of them that make peace.
Chapter 4
4:1From whence are wars and contentions among you? Are they not from here, even of your pleasures, that fight in your members?
4:2You lust, and have not:you envy, and desire immoderately, and cannot obtain:you fight and war,and get nothing, because you ask not.
4:3You ask,and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you might lay the same out on your pleasures.
4:4You adulterers and adulteresses, know you not that the amity of the world is the enmity of Theos? Whoever therefore will be a friend of the world, makes himself the enemy of Theos.
4:5Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us, lusts after envy?
4:6But the Scripture offers more grace, and therefore says, Theos resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.
4:7Submit yourselves to Theos:resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
4:8Draw near to Theos, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purge your hearts, you double minded.
4:9Suffer afflictions, and sorrow you,and weep:let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy into heaviness.
4:10Cast down yourselves before the Kyrios, and he will lift you up.
4:11Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaks evil of his brother, or he that condemns his brother, speaks evil of the Law,and condemns the Law:and if you condemn the Law, you are not an observer of the Law,but a judge.
4:12There is one Lawgiver, which is able to save, and to destroy. Who are you that judge another man?
4:13Go to now you that say, Today or Tomorrow we will go into such [a] city, and continue there [a] year, and buy and sell, and get gain,
4:14(And yet you cannot tell what shall be Tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time, and afterward vanishes away)
4:15For that you ought to say, If the Kyrios will, and, if we live, we will do this or that.
4:16But now you rejoice in your boasting:all such rejoicing is evil.
4:17Therefore, to him that knows how to do well, and does it not, to him it is sin.
Chapter 5
5:1Go to now, the rich men:weep, and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
5:2Your riches are corrupt, and your garments are moth eaten.
5:3Your gold and silver is are,and the rust of them shall be a witness against you,and shall eat your flesh, as it were fire. You have heaped up treasure for the last days.
5:4Behold, the hire of the laborers, which have reaped your fields (which is of you kept back by fraud) cries, and the cries of them which have reaped, are entered into the ears of the Kyrios of hosts.
5:5You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and in wantonness. You have nourished your hearts, as in [a] day of slaughter.
5:6You have condemned and have killed the just, and he has not resisted you.
5:7Be patient therefore, brethren, to the coming of the Kyrios. Behold, the husbandman waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has long patience for it, until he receive the former, and the latter rain.
5:8Be you also patient therefore and settle your hearts:for you coming of the Kyrios draws near.
5:9Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest you be condemned:behold, the judge stands before the door.
5:10Take, my brethren, the Prophets for an example of suffering adversity, and of long patience, which have spoken in the Name of the Kyrios.
5:11Behold, we count them blessed which endure. You have heard of the patience of Job,and have known what end the Kyrios made. For the Kyrios is very pitiful and merciful.
5:12But before all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, nor by earth, nor by any other oath:but let your yes, be yes,and your no, no,lest you fall into condemnation.
5:13Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him sing.
5:14Is any sick among you? Let him call for the Elders of the Church, and let them pray for him,and anoint him with oil in the Name of the Kyrios.
5:15And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Kyrios shall raise him up:and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
5:16Acknowledge your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed:for the prayer of [a] righteous man avails much, if it be fervent.
5:17Years was a man subject to like passions as we are,and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months.
5:18And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
5:19Brethren, if any of you has erred from the truth, and some man has converted him,
5:20Let him know that he which has converted the sinner from going astray out of his way, shall save [a] soul from death, and shall hide [a] multitude of sins.
